Duncan Speller

Duncan Speller is Counsel in Litigation / Controversy Department of Wilmerhale and is a member of the International Arbitration Practice Group. He joined the firm in 2002 after training as a barrister at one of the leading sets of commercial barristers´ chambers in London. Mr. Speller is based in the London office, where he practices International Arbitration, International Litigation and English High Court Litigation.
Duncan Speller is an English barrister. Mr. Speller has represented clients in numerous institutional and ad hoc arbitrations, sited in both common law and civil jurisdictions, including England, New York, Switzerland, Sweden, Austria, France, Germany, Singapore and Hong Kong. Mr. Speller has particular experience of arbitration and litigation concerning joint ventures agreements, oil and gas, insurance and reinsurance,
telecommunications, banking and competition law issues.
Mr. Speller was called to the Bar of England and Wales by Lincoln´s Inn in November 2001. Mr. Speller taught Commercial Law, the Conflict of Laws and EU law for two years at the University of Cambridge and has also lectured at the Centre For Transnational Legal Studies in London.
Mr. Speller recently co-authored with Steven Finizio a 450 page treatise on international arbitration directed primarily towards in – house counsel entitled “A Pratical Guide to International Commercial Arbitration” (Thompson Reuters, publication released in December 2010). Mr. Speller´s recent speaking engagements include a series of seminars presented to in-house counsel in Dubai and Kuala Lumpur on international arbitration in the Oil and Gas Sectors and other presentations organized by the British Institute of International and Comparative Law and the Swiss Arbitration Association.
