Introducing the Chartered Institute of Arbitrator
Young Members’ Group
I’m grateful to the editors of the Young Arbitration Review for this opportunity to introduce its readers to the Chartered
Institute of Arbitrators (the Institute) Young Members’ Group (YMG).
The Institute is a professional membership organisation, which represents the interests of ADR practitioners worldwide. It
provides events, learning resources, networking and promotional opportunities to over 14,000 members in more than 130
countries. Within that, the YMG exists to promote the interests and activities of the Institute’s young members.
The Global YMG Committee is working on an exciting programme of events for 2016/17.
In the next couple of months, we will be launching the inaugural YMG Essay Competition. Members of the YMG will be
invited to submit a short essay – of up to 2,000 words, including footnotes – on how to improve international arbitration.
The YMG will provide a listed of suggested topics but entrants will also be free to choose their own. The winning essay
will be published in Arbitration – The International Journal of Arbitration, Mediation and Dispute Management. The competition
will be open to all YMG members, regardless of location or experience. Further details will be announced shortly
via the Institute’s website and the YMG newsletter but, in the meantime, please contact YMG Vice-Chair Claire Clutterham
Following the success of the YMG’s Centenary Conference in Paris in 2015, on 18 November 2016 the Global YMG Committee

conference, which will consider the ‘Life of a Dispute’ from inception to enforcement, will be generously hosted by White
& Case LLP and will be preceded by a networking reception. The head of the Conference Sub-Committee, Amanda Lee
(email@example.com), will release more details, including how to sign-up, later in the year.
Looking ahead in to 2017, the YMG Dubai Conference will take place in January as a joint initiative between the Global
YMG and Dubai YMG Committees. The precicse date of the conference is still to be confirmed but Robert Stephen
(firstname.lastname@example.org) will be in touch in due course.
Also keep an eye out local YMG activities in your region. In September the YMG Europe will hold an evening reception
(contact Gonçalo Malheiro, email@example.com, for more details) and in October the YMG India will hosting its
