Sofia Martins

Sofia Martins (born 1973), Senior Associate at Miranda Correia Amendoeira e Associados. Graduate of Faculdade de Direito da Universidade de Lisboa (1996). Admitted to the Portuguese Bar Association in 1998. Joined the Firm in 2014.
Sofia started her career at Henrique Abecasis, Andresen Guimarães & Associados. In 1998, Sofia worked as legal consultant in the Office of the Minister for Agriculture. After leaving Henrique Abecasis, Andresen Guimarães & Associados in 2004, Sofia joined FSMM & Associados, a firm she would then leave in 2006 to join Fraústo da Silva & Associados, of which she was a founding partner. In 2008, Fraústo da Silva & Associados merged with Uría Menéndez – Proença de Carvalho, where Sofia would remain until 2014.
Sofia is a member of the Portguese Arbitration Association (APA) and the Club Español del Arbitraje (CEA). Sofia sits on the Board of the Arbitration Centre of the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Sofia is a member of the International Bar Association (IBA), the International Council for Commercial Arbitration (ICCA) and the International Association of Insurance Law (AIDA).
Sofia writes regularly on arbitration matters for a number of both national and international law publications.
In 2013, she was one of the lawyers distinguished with the prize awarded by Iberian Lawyer - 40 under 40 awards – and listed as leading legal practitioner in her field in the 2014 edition of Who's Who Legal of Commercial Arbitration, published in collaboration with Global Arbitration Review.
Her practice is focused on litigation and arbitration, with particular emphasis on civil, corporate and commercial matters.
Sofia is fluent in English, French and Spanish.
